To connect to CAMPUS-AIR is actually pretty simple with Windows 7 if you use the right settings.

After you close the windows, you should get an authentication box like this. Type in your network username and password. You may have to do this a few times (I'm not sure why..)

If all goes well, you should have connected! If you’re having trouble, feel free to ask me in person, or leave a comment.

you think these instructions can be altered to work for our blackberry

It's possible…you might have better luck with by exporting the right certificate from your laptop from the school image..but if you can use these settings, then I guess it should work…

Not quite..as far as I know..you need to upload the right cert’s to your BB from your laptop. I’m not quite sure which ones yet. That being said, I could be very wrong, and perhaps you can login without the cert’s, but to the best of my knowledge, you can’t. It’s a breeze with the iPhone though, no cert’s or anything needed.

Campus Air works great on my new T510, but the wireless card doesn’t seem to want to connect to my home network. This is only a problem that occurs on the laptop UOIT issued me. I’ll have the IT guys look at it soon.

I can connect to an unsecured wireless network that is within the vicinity of my home. When I removed the password on my own network, all computers within my home connected no problem, but even with no protection on the network, the laptop still refused to connect. Hell, I even connected this laptop directly to the router and it still won’t connect.

Any idea of what could be preventing the wireless card from connecting?

A lot of people use MAC filtering on the wireless network. Basically, what happens is, there is a unique address for every networking device in the world – called a MAC address, and you ask the router to allow only certain MAC addresses to communicate, and blacklist the rest. So, unless you’re explicitly set the computer’s MAC address in your router’s white list, it will be blocked.

Usually, this is a feature that you’ve got to turn on. I’m not sure as to whether you’d have that enabled or not, but it may be good to check with one of the computers that are able to access the router.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of this type of filtering, because it can get quite annoying to maintain. For security settings, WPA 2 with AES and a strong key (randomly generated keys work best. Try and have above 14-18 characters with numbers, upper and lower case letters, and symbols)should be fine.

    Hope that helps!

I believe ITS has instruction sheets available in the computer commons now for this. I’m not sure if they’ve changed anything, and I can’t test it anymore since I’ve graduated.
    Sorry!

I got a copy of the wireless setup from the IT guys and I followed all the instructions on it. Overall it doesn’t work. Apparently the step that you mentioned about the advanced settings is not on the sheet I have. Im also using my own laptop instead of the one provided by the university. Is it possible to setup wifi on my own laptop instead? (my laptop is Acer Aspire 5742z 4986)

Yup..same instructions should work regardless of the machine on Win 7.
I don’t know if ITS has changed anything this year though. I haven’t tested it in a while, since I’ve graduated, and my account is likely locked out.
    Cheers,
